Salvatore Messina - Director: Mr. Messina and his wife are the founders and artistic directors of the King David Dance Company, a touring performing arts ministry which is dedicated to promoting the gospel of Jesus Christ. Formerly, Sal was on faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo and frequently traveled as a master class instructor and adjudicator for organizations nationwide. Sal was a principal performer for the Miss America Scholarship Pageant and for Am-Dance in Concert, a tap and jazz company belonging to the Northeast Association of Regional Ballet Companies. Mr. Messina is a former choreographer for the Charlotte Philharmonic and is widely remembered for capturing the first national Male Dancer of the Year Award for Dance Masters of America in 1979. He is currently studying through Rhema Bible School for future ordination.Barbara Messina - Director: Mrs. Messina's professional experience spans over 30 years of teaching, performance, and choreography. Having received her Fine Arts degree as a summa cum laude graduate and full scholarship student, she is well noted for her versatility in the dance disciplines. Barbara has performed with the Buffalo Regional Ballet Company and was a featured tap dancer in Maurice Hines' Performing Arts Showcase in New York City. Mrs. Messina was on faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she also choreographed for their resident dance company. Her students have appeared with the Young Americans, at Disneyland, with the Aspen Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet. Having long ago committed her life and talents to the Lord's eternal purposes, she now works side by side with Sal, her husband of 27 years. The couple has two children, Jacob and Gabrielle.Sarah Weiss: Sarah received her early training and performing experience right here in Charlotte and was a founding member of the King David Dance Company. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Recognizing her natural talent for choreography, Mrs. Weiss was honored to be selected two years in a row to set pieces for the Young Choreographers' Showcase. She has directed Dancers' Workshop productions, has taught both in Charlotte and New York, and has served on the dance faculty at the University of North Carolina Charlotte campus. Sarah completed her staff internship with Campus Crusade for Christ, leading Bible studies, discipling women, and ministering in New York City before returning home and answering the call to use her God-given gifts and talents in dance. She and husband Adam have one son, Caleb.Carletta Bradley: Carletta comes to us with an impressive background in music and drama. A gifted instrumentalist, singer, and worship leader, she composes and writes songs of inspiration to lead others into the presence of God. Having graduated with a fine arts degree in music from Catawba College, Carletta served for many years as Music Director for Spiritual Life Church in Minneapolis. With extensive experience in international missions work, Miss Bradley's heart is to teach and equip others for evangelism through the performing arts.Janice Barnett: Janice completed curriculum in music education at Greensboro College and Elon University. Her course of study includes piano, organ, and conducting. She recently retired as Music Ministry Associate at Matthews United Methodist Church after 14 years of service. While at MUMC Janice served as organist and acting accompanist for church music activities, Coordinator of Youth and Children's Music, director of the youth choir and two children's choirs, as well as co-founder and director of Melody Makers, a choir for senior adults. Prior to MUMC, Mrs. Barnett served in music ministry for thirty two years at both Third Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Janice's call to ministry allows her to reach God's children through music and develop new relationships with people of all ages. She and her husband Ed have two grown children.Aysha Bowling: Aysha comes to us from the Latin Ballet of Virginia and is a graduate of Henrico High School Center for the Arts. Before becoming an instructor/choreographer for Freedom House Church in Charlotte, Mrs. Bowling worked with the Solid Rock Youth Chosen Generation Dance Team of Faith Landmarks Ministries in Richmond. Aysha brings a fresh and Godly style to the contemporary hip-hop idiom and imparts spiritual truths in the classroom that speak to students of all ages.Karen Cuffie: Miss Cuffie received her degree from Catawba College and was formerly the Youth Director and Dance Ministry leader at Refreshing Springs Christian Ministry. She has taught workshops on worship dance and has choreographed several musical productions. Karen has served on the faculty of the middle school at Garr Christian Academy. Additionally, she is a gifted vocalist, a member of the King David Dance Company, and an exceptional Christian educator. |
